Sjoerd is an autodidact in photography, a petrolhead when it comes to his passion for cars and a minimalist and perfectionist for clear lines in composition and architecture.
Sjoerds goal is to bring back the spontanity and honesty in car photography. He shows cars in a realistic, sometimes even voyeuristic – but always good looking – way.
This unique and different approach, as well as his fast way of working and the huge variation of angles on every shoot is a relief to most art-directors who are fed up with the traditional – ‘I need a day, a truck of light and four assistants for this shot’ – type of working.
The Dutchman prefers working in small teams instead, when possible in a guerillia style. Shooting a lot, making the most out of every situation and having something to choose from in the end is what he’s aiming for.
Sjoerd studied Interactive Media in Amsterdam and worked as a designer in London. Since his first shoot (LEXUS in 2009 – the art director found his work via Flickr(!), he teamed up with agents, built a solid portfolio and continued shooting for well known brands such as ASTON MARTIN, AUDI, BMW and VOLKSWAGEN.
Sjoerd (1983) lives nearby Amsterdam with his girlfriend, three chickens and a dog. He is worldwide represented by SCHIERKE ARTISTS.
